A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface, restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular. They are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth, giving you a long-lasting, beautiful smile.

What does getting a crown involve?
With the help of a technology known as CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics), our dental office is able to quickly produce crowns, based on detailed images of your smile.
Using an intraoral camera, Dr. Ahn will capture images that are imported to the CEREC machine and are processed by its software program to mill your crown. Once the image has been formed, the machine can then design a crown that will fit over the damaged tooth to restore it to its original shape and size. The time it takes CEREC technology to create your unique restoration from a solid block of ceramic is as little as 45 minutes.
We can then fit these crowns in the same appointment, rather than requiring you to come back for further visits to finish treatment. With CEREC’s help, patients can get customized, beautiful and durable restorations in only one trip to the dentist’s office
You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to check your new crown.
