Why Get Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. Implants are permanently fixed and there is no need to take them out to clean them - you can simply brush them as you would with your natural teeth. Dental implants fill in the gaps that are left when a tooth is taken out due to damage or knocked out in an accident. Implants can replace one tooth, or several – depending on your needs. If you are missing whole arches of teeth, or have total tooth loss, mini dental implants can be used as anchors to permanently attach a set of dentures.
Compared to traditional tooth replacement methods, such as fixed bridges and removable dentures, dental implants from our office are able to:
• Maintain the natural aesthetic of your face
• Preserve bone in the jaw
• Restore bite function
• Prevent slipping or slurred speech
• Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space
• Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable
• Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth
Getting Dental Implants - What's Involved?
Dental implants must be carefully designed and placed so that they fit comfortably to provide maximum benefit. Dr. Ahn uses a cone beam computed tomography scanner, called CBCT, to get clear images of teeth structures and bones and tissue density. These highly detailed images are used to safely and effectively guide the precise placement of implants into the bone in your jaw.
Before fitting the implants, Dr. Ahn will give you a local anesthetic so that you remain relaxed and comfortable while being treated. The lower part of the implant, the titanium rod or prosthetic tooth root, will be securely fitted into the bone. You will then need to wait for the tissue around the implant to heal before crowns (artificial teeth) can be attached onto the implant posts. Once attached, the crowns will look and feel just like real teeth, allowing you to enjoy all your favorite foods again.
Restoring Dental Implants
Although dental implants are designed to last a lifetime, some patients may notice routine wear and tear, or perhaps their dental crown has even been broken or chipped. Whatever your worries are, Dr. Ahn can use the advanced technology of CEREC to create a brand new crown for your dental implant in as little as 45 minutes.
